Can you believe that after a year and a half of traveling full-time in our RV that we had yet to visit any of the states in the southwest?! It took an unexpected to detour to the west coast on our way to the east coast for us to get to explore some of the states we’ve been missing out on. Arizona was one of them, and we definitely weren’t disappointed.
Our trip was quick. We spent two weeks traveling to Florida and only stopped twice for more than a one-night stay. When we realized that our route was going to be taking right through Saguaro National Park, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get some sightseeing in.
There is an east and west side to Saguaro National Park. And quite honestly, we had no idea which side to spend our limited time at. We only had time for exploring one of the two. Based on some quick research, we decided we wanted to forego the east and dedicate an afternoon of exploring the western side of the park.
Sonora Desert Museum
One of the biggest reasons for choosing the west side of the park is because it plays host to the Sonora Desert Museum. 80% of the parkAt $20 per person entry fee, it can be a little spendy. However, definitely worth the investment, in my opinion.
If you visit the Sonora Desert Museum, you’ll want to make sure you allow yourself at least a couple hours to be able to leisurely walk through the entire place. Quite frankly, I would say you will want to set aside at least three hours or more. There’s so much to see, plenty of animal exhibits, and a lot of stations to stop at where park employees explain random facts and answer all the questions.
Saguaro National Park at Sunset
By the time we finished our quick 2-hour tour through the museum before it closed, it was an hour away from sunset. And being a photographer, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snap some sunset shots in the desert!
It was well-worth the wait! And even though our time at Saguaro National Park was limited, I truly feel like we got to experience some pretty amazing things in such a short amount of time.
