Homemade goodness fo’ yo’ body! Easy body butter and sugar scrub recipes using only the best essential oils from Young Living.
So, my birthday wasn’t too long ago (finally joined the 30’s Club!), and my mom gave me various gifts. But the ones I feel I’ve used the most are the homemade items she sent.
You guys, store-bought moisturizers are some of THE MOST toxic things we could be lathering on our bodies. If you grab your Think Dirty app and roam the aisles of your favorite store…pick up a random lotion and scan it. Nearly everything you could find in a store is an 8 to 10. Full of carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and developmental toxicities.
One of the biggest words to stay away from when reading the ingredient list on the label is “Fragrance.” Companies use the word fragrance to hide all the worst ingredients. And what’s scary, is this is completely legal. Totally acceptable. And just because a product has “Natural” on the label doesn’t mean dang thing, either. Literally anyone can make any product and slap “Natural” on the label and call it a day. This is not regulated by our government.
This is why it is so incredibly important to look at the ingredient list and do your research. Or, like I’m about to share with you, there are many ways to make your very own body care products! The ingredient list is way short, and you know exactly what you’re rubbing into your skin.
Treat yourself to a spa day without all the harsh ingredients seeping into your skin! Here are a couple of my favorite recipes for the best sugar scrub and body butter.
These two recipes are the ones that my mom made for me and my mother-in-law. I haven’t yet used the Sugar Scrub (but my MIL can attest that she loves it). But the Body Butter….oh…em…gee. SO delicious, and my skin smells like cookies. It smells so good, you could almost eat it. And really, go ahead. Eat away. Because every single ingredient is 100% safe if you’re into that sorta thang.
Recipe #1: Whipped Body Butter
1/4c Shea Butter
1/4c Cocoa Butter
1/4c Coconut Oil
1/4c Sweet Almond Oil
10-20 drops of your favorite Essential Oil (I believe my mom used Peppermint for mine)
– Combine all ingredients, except the essential oil, in a small pot or double boiler
-Gently melt and stir over medium-low heat until the mixture is liquid
-Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to partially set up (you can place in the fridge or freezer to speed this process)
-Once the mixture is partially set, add the essential oils of your choice, and whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the body butter is fluffy and stiff peaks have formed
-Spoon into a jar and apply anywhere on the body. Or, give as a gift!
Recipe #2: Sugar Scrub
1c White Sugar
1/2c Organic Coconut Oil
4 Drops Lavender
2 Drops Peppermint
– Slightly soften the coconut oil before adding to the remaining ingredients.
– Mix ingredients together and spoon into a jar
– Apply on moistened skin during a shower or bath to exfoliate
